Virtual Visiting Artist

If only … but she is gone … what is that expression about the only good artist blah blah blah ? So I wonder – if she were still alive – might she consider being our 2023 artist-in-residence? Yes, I do realize that she would be 87 years old. So? An artist is always young in heart and spirit. Besides, we can always celebrate her demise. She passed away on May 29, 1970. Yes, I was around then and I was doing art.

Eva Hesse was born in Germany and gained fame as an American sculptor. She was a pioneer in using such materials as latex, fibreglass and plastics as well as a vanguard of the 1960s post minimal art movement. These are facts I gathered from the MoMA website.

I call her my virtual visiting artist because she will be in my mind helping me while I struggle with my own sculptural piece. I am making art from recycled plastic materials, thinking that if Eva were alive today she might be doing something along the lines of recycling herself.

Why would I choose plastic? Why not? From what I understand, art is a far better use for plastic than casting it out into the Bay.
